ABC Wednesday - M

M is for Meatloaf

Many, many years ago, when I was a divorced "30 something", a male colleague invited me out for a drink one evening. We met at a local pub, got a drink and began chatting. There was loud music playing. Then he said, what, to me, sounded like "do you like meatloaf"?

I had already eaten and inwardly groaned and thought "oh no, I hope he's not going to invite me back to his for something to eat"! So, with a vision of him slaving over a hot stove and without wishing to offend, I replied as casually as I could, "it's OK, but it's not something I usually make" and it was left at that.

Fast forward about 10 years, and listening to the radio one day, light dawned! I still laugh when I recall the moment I realised that what he had probably said was "do you like Meatloaf"?

It is one of those moments that has stuck in my mind! We remained work colleagues, but that was all!

Funny misunderstanding.
Actually meatloaf (the food kind) is one of my Hubby's favorites.

I instantly thought ogf the singer myself. But I do like the food, with mashed potatoes.

Ten years? I am surprised you remembered the question after so long. I would have forgotten all about it!

That's so funny Anne, it's probably something I would have said too.

I'm ROTFLOL...sounds like something I'd say! I LOVE meatloaf (small "m") for a nice winter comfort food dinner. But Meatloaf (capital "M") I can take or leave. Still smiling at this! :D

I like that. I'd have said thanks but I'm a veggie.

I do like Meatloaf though, the human version.

that's a funny story. I am a fan of both the food meatloaf and the singer Meatloaf.

Sometimes it takes a long, long time for our misunderstandings to dawn on us. Love meatloaf, - out of the oven.

Belatedly, many happy birthday wishes. Sounds like a wonderful day.

That's funny.
I love meatloaf (the food), haven't made it for years. I think I'll make it tonight instead of spag bol.

I loved the stage show when Meatloaf actually rode his motorbike on stage.... it was fantastic... I was probably deaf for days afterwards!

I smiled at your story. What a dumb(?) name for a band anyway. I'm sure he thought you were just a bit crazy! :-)

That is really, really funny! Meatloaf is one of my husbands most favorite dinners. Isn't that funny?

This made me laugh! How funny! It makes me think of all the awkward answers I have given to people due to my poor hearing. I figure people think I am a tad eccentric at times. Maybe that is why I like blogging and writting....nothing to mishear or misunderstand :-)

That really was very funny!

Hahaha! A perfectly understandable misunderstanding! It makes a very funny story though. LOL!

My site is back up now, if you tried earlier and failed. ;)

I saw Mr Meatloaf on television recently (as a judge on Pop Stars to Opera Stars). I thought he was totally off the wall. Now as for the edible variety I love it! Your gentleman friend was obviously too polite to tell you the error of your reply.

Sorry to hear about your mum too. My mother is a similar age and I always worry about her falling - as she has had a few nasty falls in the past. Hope your mum is better soon.
