Funny Little Girl

We have 7 grandchildren and love them all. Unfortunately we only have 3 in this country and don't get to see the others as often as we would like. Our youngest grand-daughter though is probably the funniest of them all. She is now almost 5 years old and has always been a character. Without wishing to sound like a doting grandparent here are some of the things she has said.

Sent to the toilet with a reminder to wash her hands she came back downstairs and the following took place:

GD - "I didn't need to wash my hands Mum"

M - "why not, you must have touched the toilet"

GD - "no I didn't - I used your flannel" !!

Recently on a visit to them (they live in Stratford on Avon) she asked if my daughter and I would play cafe's with her. We had to sit at a little table, she brought us menus from her play kitchen, set knives and forks in front of us and then went to get her pad and pencil. Back at the table she asked her mummy what she would like. My daughter said she would like steak please. Silence followed, then she looked at her mummy and said "my dear - you can't have that because I can't write it". We laughed very loud - (fortunately she wasn't upset) and then I ordered egg, which she could write. My daughter then spelled out steak and all was well.

She began school last September and is now getting to grips with learning to read. Her teachers are pleased with her and have told her mummy and daddy at parents evening that she is a bright little girl. She is doing well but struggling with a new book one day said to her mummy - "I'm not designed for reading"!

We know better!

Dear little girl!

Mothering Sunday

Sunday 22nd March is Mothering Sunday in the UK - Mother's Day.

Our daughter, who lives in Stratford on Avon, has invited me, OH, my mum and OH's aunt to lunch and with our 4 year old grand-daughter, there will be six of us. OH will be a bit out-numbered - 5 to 1 - but as it is Mother's Day he is happy to drive us there and back and help with lunch. To help out we are taking desserts!

So, with extra special wishes to my mum and of course to my daughter - Happy Mother's Day to all mums everywhere. I do hope you have a lovely day.

"Thou art thy mother's glass, and she in thee
Calls back the lovely April of her prime".

Camera Critters

This is Katie, another of the beautiful cats I was privileged to live with. She was always very playful -

and sometimes a little curious!

Briefly embarrassing?

Preparing to get showered this morning I put my underwear to one side, but later could not find the briefs that I knew I had taken out of the drawer. I searched for them but no luck. Oh well, they'll turn up sometime, so I took out another pair. A bit later on, downstairs, I heard OH exclaim "what the **** is this" and looked up to see him holding my missing undies. He had mistaken them for one of his hankies and just stuffed them into his pocket.

It was fortunate that he found them when he did as he had a meeting to attend later in the day. Can you imagine the thoughts and comments if he had discovered them then!

It did make us laugh. Thought I'd share!

Anyone else had a similar experience?

In the garden this week

We have had beautiful weather, yesterday and today - blue skies, lots of sunshine and breezy. It's still not quite warm enough for me to work in the garden but I had a quick look around and took a few photos.

Please click on each photo to enlarge it.

I found a clump of primroses

and some crocus, fully out

also the hellebore - these are purple and there is a pink one behind it but I have no white, which of course are the beautiful "Christmas roses" - I would love to have some of those.

Robin was helping himself to lunch

and also Mrs Blackbird

A few days before I had found the frogs being "friendly" in our pond (look away now if you are easily shocked)!

and today there was a newt basking in the sunshine in the shallows

note the frog spawn in the bottom left corner!

And, finally, our first daffodils
