ABC Wednesday - D

My doll

When I was about 6 years old, my mother took me shopping one day to buy some new clothes for our holiday. We went into Marks & Spencer and there I spied this little doll. I immediately fell in love with her and begged to be allowed to buy her. My mother says that I rarely asked for anything and when I offered to use my pocket money to buy her (saved for holiday spending) mum said she couldn't refuse me. So she bought her for me and I have loved my little doll ever since. I named her Susan. As I am now nearly 66 years old that makes Susan 60 years old. Her original clothes are long gone and she is a little faded (aren't we all at 60 years old) but her eyes still open and close, she still has eyelashes and her arms and legs still move well. She is between 8 and 9 inches long (22 cm), so a proper "baby doll". I think she is very sweet. I am going to make her a new dress.

ABC Wednesday is hosted by Mrs Denise Nesbitt and her team. For more takes on the letter D click here.

Susan is indeed gorgeous! I always fell in love with the "baby" dolls and when I played with friends I always had four. I was an only child and always wanted siblings, so I made up for it when I got married -- I had/have four children. I don't still have any of mine, but I do remember them! Fun post, fun reminder! Have a great week -- well, what's left of it. Thanks for stopping by and your comment. Always appreciated!

I only ever had one doll (Sonja), but was never really a doll-person. I preferred my brother's lego and his race track. My mother had saved Sonja though (missing a leg and most of her hair). I threw it out soon after. I've got a teddy that is a lot more precious to me! And he's been with me wherever I lived!

I still have my Baby Doll too. She's about the same age as yours. I agree that I'm a bit faded too. Great post Anne.

It's great when you don't have to let go of childhood because you can actually still hold on to it! Susan is lovely~~I'm glad she can be so close to your heart everyday!

I was never a doll person, but I do like those old dolls, much played with and loved. I wonder how much of the toys bought today won't even exist in 60 years, much less in such a good shape.

Won't she look smart in her new dress? How lovely to have kept a childhood toy all these years.

Oh, she is sweet! And you must have taken great care of her when you were a child - she is in great condition for 60 years old!

On behalf of the team, thank you for taking part in ABC Wednesday this week! :)

My goodness. I would have pegged that doll as even older. Looks like the doll my mother had, and she's 15 years older than you. Memories.

Funny how some toys 'call' to us and stay in our hearts for ever. I've still got a couple of childhood teddies. :)
