Funny Little Girl

We have 7 grandchildren and love them all. Unfortunately we only have 3 in this country and don't get to see the others as often as we would like. Our youngest grand-daughter though is probably the funniest of them all. She is now almost 5 years old and has always been a character. Without wishing to sound like a doting grandparent here are some of the things she has said.

Sent to the toilet with a reminder to wash her hands she came back downstairs and the following took place:

GD - "I didn't need to wash my hands Mum"

M - "why not, you must have touched the toilet"

GD - "no I didn't - I used your flannel" !!

Recently on a visit to them (they live in Stratford on Avon) she asked if my daughter and I would play cafe's with her. We had to sit at a little table, she brought us menus from her play kitchen, set knives and forks in front of us and then went to get her pad and pencil. Back at the table she asked her mummy what she would like. My daughter said she would like steak please. Silence followed, then she looked at her mummy and said "my dear - you can't have that because I can't write it". We laughed very loud - (fortunately she wasn't upset) and then I ordered egg, which she could write. My daughter then spelled out steak and all was well.

She began school last September and is now getting to grips with learning to read. Her teachers are pleased with her and have told her mummy and daddy at parents evening that she is a bright little girl. She is doing well but struggling with a new book one day said to her mummy - "I'm not designed for reading"!

We know better!

Dear little girl!

That toilet/flannel story was hilarious!
And there's no need to worry about being a doting Grandmother! Better that than to have one who doesn't care!

She sounds marvellous! Make the most of it, time goes so fast and before you know it they are teenagers.........

Oh that's so funny. You need to write them down or you forget.

The toilet provides lots of discussion and hilarity doesn't it. They do grow too fast and grandchildren seem to grow faster than your own children.

They always have an answer for everything, don't they!!

I love that she calls your daughter "my dear" - what a little character she is.
My son calls me "darling" sometimes and my heart melts.

Maggie - the things all of them say we find so endearing but obviously not necessarily so to others! A x

Gilly - we think she is a lovely little girl. Unfortunately we don't see any of our grandchildren very often. A x

Winifred - the toilet humour really takes a hold doesn't it! You're right about the speed with which they seem to grow - frightening! A x

Rosiero - how right you are! A x

Pam - I think she was actually trying to sound like an efficient waitress! A x

Young children pick things up so quickly that I think that it comes as a bit of a shock to them to have to work at reading and writing, but we all have to do it.

Ha! I once had a cat who would use my flannel to cover 'accidents' she had made in the bath! LOL!

Your grand-daughter sounds like a bright little girl. She's thinking in a very inventive way, isn't she? And it's good that she doesn't get offended - she'll probably learn to make people laugh on purpose pretty soon!

And then there'll be no stopping her!

Aren't the little ones just priceless Anne? The great thing about the grandkiddo's is that they get to go home, lol.
You know you love your kids but your grandkids are just the love of your life.
