ABC Wednesday - Round 6 - A

Aquilegia

I used to grow these pretty flowers, also known as Columbines and sometimes here in the UK as Granny's Bonnets. Apparently members of the Buttercup family.

This meme is hosted by Mrs Denise Nesbit and you can see more takes on the letter A - here.

They do look like little bonnets. I've never seen this flower before. They're very cute.

I do love aquilegias ..... they keep you guessing what colour they will spring up as. They cross pollinate so quickly and my lovely blues are now pink or white!

Lovely *A* to tart the round off again.

I love them - they are called 'orlik' in Polish and I always have them in my wee garden:)

Love the flowers. And unfortunately, Columbine now has a negative connotation.

I'm now part of the ABC Wednesday Team; thank you for participating!

I do like these.

Thanks for reminding me, I used to grow them too. Mine were deep pink and cream.

I've no memory for flowers at all. It took me nearly three years before I finally remembered mombresias!

These look very pretty though.

I've always called them Columbines and hadn't a clue as to the proper name - they are beautiful!

Oh, how pretty! Aquilegias!

My mother loved them and grew a lot of the blue and light purple varieties. And then when we moved in here, they had planted a mixture of colours including a really dark one that looked almost black. I root them up now because they're very poisonous and occasionally we have a dog who chews on foliage.

Quite tough, aren't they, despite the fragile appearance!

I was beginning to think I was the only person who still called them Granny's Bonnets. All of them are so pretty and they have such pretty names.

Thanks for your visit yesterday.
